DONATIONS TO BE VOTED ON AT THE JUNE 21, 2025 CHAPTER MEETING

St. Francis of Assisi Sports Boosters

SFA Boosters supports all student athletes from Kindergarten through 8th grade.

This golf outing is the only fundraiser for Boosters, so it's a big one for the kids.

This year's goals are to purchase new outdoor scoreboards for our baseball and soccer fields, a new volleyball net system, new football helmets, new basketballs, new uniforms for our track and field and volleyball teams and continue offering skill development programs for our athletes.

I believe the Browns Barkers should support the SFA Boosters because it's supporting local children in athletics that teaches them to be better teammates and people.

The Browns Barkers have been supporters for 3 straight years and would love to have our logo on the banner again!

Thank you for your continued support!

  Cleveland Stroke Club

To the members of the Browns Barkers, Jean and I are members of Browns Barkers and at this time we would like to ask the group to provide a $500 donation to the Cleveland Stroke Club.

The money will be used to provide opportunities for members that cannot afford to pay out of pocket to attend the annual celebration/dinner event to be held in August this year at Alfredo’s in Mayfield Village.

Each year in the United States approximately 800,000 people have a stroke or “brain attack”. A stroke or “brain attack” occurs suddenly and can leave the individual that suffered the stroke with life-long disabilities in communication, thinking, eating, and mobility. These disabilities result in social isolation for many, many stroke survivors.

Support groups for stroke survivors and their family members are critical in terms of reducing social isolation and providing support for dealing with the changes. The Cleveland Stroke Club (CSC) is a nonprofit organization that was started over 50 years ago to support survivors of strokes and their family members.

Jean has been a volunteer for the CSC for over 20 years, and I have been on the board for over a one year. It is an organization that touches our hearts. We have been able to see up close the resilience of these individuals and their family members who live with these challenges 24/7 365 days a year.

  Greater Cleveland Fisher House

The national Fisher House program is a “home away from home” for families of veteran and active-duty patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. There are 100 Fisher Houses around the country and overseas.

The two Cleveland VA Fisher Houses opened in June 2019 and provide free temporary lodging so veteran families who live 50 miles or more from the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center can be close to their loved one during their medical treatment.

In partnership with VA staff, the Greater Cleveland Fisher House foundation provides any additional resources these families need during a challenging time in their lives. We are able to do this thanks to our generous donors as well as through fundraisers and participating in events that directly benefit this organization and its mission.

  Cleveland Kids' Book Bank

Founded in 2016, the Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank is dedicated to fostering literacy and inspiring a love of reading by getting free books into the hands of children who need them most.

* The Book Bank has built a network of over 20 community bookshelves in public spaces—ensuring that children and families have constant access to books in the neighborhoods where they live, work, and learn.

* In 2024 alone, more than 540,000 books were distributed to kids in the greater Cleveland area.

* Our donation would directly support this vital work, helping to break down barriers to literacy, empower young readers, and strengthen our community for generations to come.

  Aunt Helen Vura

In April, Sheila’s Aunt Helen had a rod removed from her upper leg in preparation for knee replacement surgery in the fall.

In May the incision became infected and it was septic, she then got MSRA and the infection rapidly went to her blood, thankfully not to her heart.

After 2 weeks in the hospital and 2 surgeries she was sent home where Sheila’s mom has been assisting her with all of her needs, luckily they live together.

Helen bartends at 2 different establishments and has been out of work for the past few months. Additionally, Sheila’s mom has been out of work bc of this. We are asking for a donation so Helen can get some relief to assist with some bills

  Take A Lap Foundation

The Take a Lap Foundation began with a community rallying around a family experiencing the tragic loss of the Browns Barkers Vice President Pat Rahill. It was through the service of his friends and family we were able to make it through that time.

And as we talked with people about Pat after his passing, one trait of his that frequently came up was his service of others.  We realized a giant part of Pat's legacy was the service he did for others.

So, as this organization strives to continue his legacy. Service is one of our founding principals. Just as Pat did for others, and others did for us when we lost him, we strive to support our community members in need by showing up and being of service.

Alongside our understanding of the importance community action, we also acknowledge the significance of financial assistance in times of crisis. During Pat's illness and passing, we benefited greatly from steady incomes, access to good healthcare, and others financial gifts after his passing. Unfortunately, this is not always the case for our community members during difficult times.

So, as an organization it is our goal to assist individuals and families within our community experiencing a sudden crisis with small monetary donations, as well as other non profit organizations who do excellent work caring for our community members in need.

  Her ALS Story

Her ALS is a group of women who were diagnosed with ALS known as Lou Gerigs disease before the age of 35.

For most of them an ALS diagnosis means giving up careers, the lives we thought we would be living, the dreams we had of our futures. Our new reality is consumed by fighting a battle against a relentless, terminal illness. Our mission at Her ALS Story is to raise awareness and foster a community where women can educate and support one another to live their best lives. In the darkest moments of life with this disease, we have found light in the support from one another.

Each year, we organize a four day event to bring together members from all over the country and this year we're heading to Compassionate Care ALS's facility on Cape Cod. This is no small feat, given the enormous obstacles in traveling with this disease. Many of us require full-time caregivers, feeding tubes, assistive devices for breathing and other equipment. But this gives us the chance to meet friends with ALS in person - often for the first time.

Looking for $2,000 to help these women with costs of getting to this retreat.
